A steady rattling jerked me up, startling both Jessica and me. The room was orange, the sunset painting my house in warmth. Had I been asleep that long?

The rattling sounded again – the front door. Rossa? No. It couldn’t be. She’d never knock. She’d simply kick the door down and sprint towards me with clear intentions of ending my life. Unless she’d predicted my knowledge and was outsmarting me.

I walked to the front door with feigned confidence, only to discover an unwanted guest. Perhaps somebody worse than Rossa.
